Albufeira is located in the extreme south part of Portugal in the Algarve area province on the Atlantic Ocean. It is located about halfway
between Lagos (in the west) and Faro (in the east). Albufeira belongs to the administrative district of Faro an area of 14,800
hectares, and with a population of approximately 40,000 residents, this county is divided into five parishes: Albufeira, Ferreiras, Guia,
Olhos d'gua and Paderne. Faro Airport is located some 35 kilometres to the east of the town. Many budget airlines have direct
connections to Faro from Europe, like EasyJet, Flybe & Air Berlin. Via the N125 coastal road the drive to the airport takes about 45 min



Places near to Albufeira are Armação de Pera, Boliqueime, Guia and Paderne with its ruined castle perched on an isolated hill some distance from the village. At Ponte Grande there are impressive caves with large arches and the underwater caverns of
Grutas do Xorino. The centre of the town consists of narrow streets, but outside the centre there are many new hotels and apartments for tourists or hibernators. Near the new harbour, there are modern houses in bright colours. The locals call that area 'legoland'.

There are more than twenty beaches in the Albufeira area with fine sand shelving gently into crystal clear water. Many of the beaches are sheltered by cliffs of sandstone. The colour of the cliffs range from white to a warm sun-drenched yellow ochre and burnt sienna. There is wide provision for water sports including surfing, water skiing, sailing, motorised sports, diving and deep sea fishing.
Albufeira makes an excellent base from which to drive around and explore the rest of the region and so is a perfect holiday destination
